Monday, 1 November 2021 News Highlights

  • Business applications for the 2021 COVID-19 Business Support Grants in QLD close 16 Nov 2021. Sole traders have until 30 Nov 2021.
  • Research by The Financial Times suggests Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube have lost around $9.85 billion in revenue following Apple’s app tracking policies.
  • Microsoft has taken Apple’s number 1 spot as the most valuable public company, following Microsoft’s earnings boosted by Office, Windows and its new cloud products.

  • Instagram has launched a new ‘Add Yours‘ sticker to Stories. The new feature enables people to use the sticker to respond with their own Story.
  • On November 8, Pinterest will be launching a live shopping series called Pinterest TV, focusing on food, home, fashion, beauty, DIY and other topics.
  • LinkedIn will be updating the ‘My Company‘ tab to improve internal communication for businesses, helping to attract new talent and gain insight into competitors.

  • Meta has announced Facebook will be deleting more than a billion facial recognition templates. Deleting the feature in photos and videos comes as the platform repositions to build a more trustworthy place for users to connect.
  • Dropbox will be adding a new ‘Automated Folders‘ feature to automatically rename folders, as well as grouping subfolders to help users stay organised with standardised names and tags.
  • Facebook has collaborated with Coursera to launch a Marketing Analytics Professional Certification Program to provide insight on marketing data principles, Facebook Ads management, data analysis and more.

  • Google has released new best practices on how hosted or embedded videos can gain maximum exposure in Google Search, including utilising structured data.
  • Instagram link previews are back via Twitter! You can now embed a direct link to an Instagram post by tweeting a preview card on Twitter.
  • Google now offers publishers a new way to use first-party data in response to user feedback of wanting a better way to customise ads, targeting and advertising experiences.

  • Google is renaming Google My Business to Google Business Profile to coincide with new profile features coming in 2022 for Google Search and Maps.
  • Mark Zuckerberg has announced new customising Facebook Groups tools allowing admins and creators to add sub-groups and community chats, paid sub-groups, community fundraisers and more.
  • Instagram will be hosting its new Holiday Pop-Up Shop Live events between the 5 to 15 December. The interactive live shopping event will bring exclusive offers on fashion, beauty and lifestyle products with 20% off the first purchase.
