Google has begun winding down its Business Messages feature. As of this date, you will no longer receive new messages through Google’s Business Messaging. The complete shutdown of all chat functionality is set for July 31, 2024.

Google’s Announcement:

“We are reaching out to share that we will be winding down Google’s Business Messages on July 31, 2024. We acknowledge this may be difficult news – as we continually improve our tools, we occasionally have to make difficult decisions which may impact the businesses and partners we work with. It’s important to us that Google remains a helpful partner as you manage your business and we remain committed to this mission.”

What Should Small Businesses Do About Google’s Business Messaging Shutdown?

If You Use Google Entry Points Only: No action is required if your business solely uses Google entry points for Business Messaging.

If You Use Brand-Managed Entry Points: If your business uses URLs or web widgets for entry points, you need to remove these or replace them with alternative messaging options by July 15, 2024.

How Can Small Businesses Transition from Google Business Messaging?

Here’s how to smoothly navigate the transition as Google’s Business Messaging phases out:

Explore Alternative Channels: Consider using social media messaging platforms,  live chat on your website , or customer service apps as new communication avenues.

Inform Your Customers: Encourage customers to transition to these alternative channels for continued seamless communication.
