Let’s face it, when you start a business, figuring out your tax and financial obligations can be tricky. And then, just when you think you’ve got it covered, there’s a policy change. But there is help available.  

The Australian Taxation Office runs a series of free small business workshops and webinars in every state and territory to help business owners get the right information. Each session is either specific to an industry with recent policy changes or based on a topic, like managing employee payrolls.

Find your nearest small business workshop in the list below, and ensure you register via the corresponding link as spots are limited for each session.

Arundel

Single Touch Payroll Reporting Workshop (Free)

When: 11:00am to 1:00pm, Thursday 20 June 2019

Where: Parkwood Arundel Community Centre, Napper Road, Arundel

Note: This is a follow-up session for businesses with less than 20 employees, and either have a basic understanding of Single Touch Payroll or have attended the introductory session. During this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the intricacies of using software for reporting through Single Touch Payroll.

Ride-Sourcing and Tax (Sole Traders) (Free)

When: 1:30pm to 2:30pm, Thursday, 20 June 2019

Where: Parkwood Arundel Community Centre, Napper Road, Arundel

Discover the ins and outs of your tax obligations as a ride-sharing facilitator, such a driver for Uber. You’ll learn about getting your ABN organised, registering and paying for GST and keeping records as a sole trader in the ride-sourcing industry.

Tax Essentials for Small Business (Free)

When: 9:30am to 11:30am, Thursday, 20 June 2019

Where: Beenleigh Library, Crete Street, Beenleigh

If you’re new to running a business, this is the session for you. During the two-hour session, you’ll be taken through the role business structure plays in your tax rates and obligations, registering your business for tax, deductions for tax time, reporting, record keeping and more. The ATO stuff running the event give you plenty of tips, knowledge and advice, as well as online tools and resources to help you keep in the loop.

Recording Keeping for GST-Registered Businesses (Free)

When: 9:30am to 11:30am, Thursday 27 June 2019

Where: Beenleigh Library, Crete Street, Beenleigh

For those new or entering the world of GST, this workshop will take you through how to calculate and record GST, as well as recording all the money that comes in and out of your business. All of this will help you save bucket loads of time.

Cleaning Services: Introduction to Taxable Payments (Free)
