Monday, 30 August 2021 News Highlights

  • Instagram has released a guide to how they rank content on their app, as well as changes they will be making to their search feature to make it even better. The platform said their search feature will soon return images and videos relating to results, instead of just users and hashtags, with more updates to come.
  • Microsoft is threatening to withhold updates (including security updates) from those using Windows 11 or older. It’s to encourage people to get onto new computers.
  • Snapchat is updating their scan feature to begin recognising dog breeds, clothes and more. It’s going to help brands who make lenses be able to do more with the feature and connect with users.

Tuesday, 31 August 2021 News Highlights

  • The Australian Government is investing over $61 million to continue free financial counselling for Queensland’s primary producers and rural businesses until 2024.
  • Twitter is introducing a new ‘Community’ feature that will let users create and share tweets about a topic within a group of people.
  • Google’s John Mueller has said Google changing title tags will not impact rankings and website owners should not stop optimising titles themselves.

  • The ban on single-use plastic items has begun in Queensland on 1 September 2021. The ban is part of Queensland’s plan to tackle plastic pollution.

  • Queensland marine tourism operators can apply for new funding assistance for berthing fees in privately operated marinas from Cooktown to Hervey Bay.
  • Twitter has introduced Safety Mode as a new feature and setting. Safety Mode will temporarily block accounts sending harmful or abusive tweets.

Friday, 3 September 2021 News Highlights

  • Apple’s iOS 15 will begin to ask for permission before enabling Personalised Ads in the App Store and Apple News. This is off the back of the tech company requiring all app developers to do the same as of 2021.
  • The Queensland Government is investing nearly $11 million funding into the live music sector. Round 2 funding includes $2.3 million towards 22 live music venues in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Visit www.arts.qld.gov.au for more information.
